Governments have tried online voting, but there always remain the challenges of security and manipulation. On the blockchain, data is incorruptible meaning once registered, a vote cannot be undone.
With elections on the blockchain, there are three advantages.

First and foremost is that data cannot be manipulated, erased, or added to the blockchain. If NFTs are used to verify the identity of citizens, blockchain elections can promise free and fair elections. Secondly, since all of it is done through smart contracts, you will not need any manpower or other resources.

Elections can cost a fortune even if they are conducted online and blockchain elections can save a ton of money that can be used in other priority areas. Lastly, elections will remain transparent. Since the blockchain is immutable, it creates a verifiable history of each person that has voted. If you are unsure whether your vote is cast, you can check on the blockchain.
