The last serious global crisis was the Financial Crisis back in 2008/09! Apart from billions of USDs going up in smoke, one FUNDAMENTAL thing got completely crushed, too…can you guess? … Hint: it’s something that is very hard to gain, and very easy to destroy… people’s TRUST!
…TRUST in our financial system & regulators, in our political elite and institutions, there to protect all of us. Thousands of investors felt cheated and angry, yet helpless and defenseless against what they felt was a totally corrupted reality.
On the Flip Side …out of THAT CRISIS… something new was CREATED! A technology, that was supposed to be the antidote to corruption, to fraud and to the potential manipulation of our financial system: The Blockchain! In 2009 Satoshi Nakamoto invented the first Digital Currency – the Bitcoin – running on the Blockchain. The Blockchain, a Decentralized, peer 2 peer technology, can be described as a ‘TRUST LAYER’ to lend the highest degree of security to all stakeholders in the financial system, because it is a transparent and immutable electronic ledger.
William is a direct participant in the blockchain-technology market, working alongside startups, entrepreneurs, pioneers, leaders, innovators, creators, enterprise executives and practitioners; in addition to being an investor, advisor, and Board member in some of the leading organizations in this space. At the time of publishing, William is on the Board of Directors of OB1 (USA), the OpenBazaar open source protocol that is pioneering decentralized peer-to-peer commerce, a Board Member of Blockchain Valley Ventures (Switzerland), and a Board Member of the Kin Foundation (Canada), one of the most widely used mobile App-based cryptocurrency. Formerly, he was a Special Advisor to the Ethereum Foundation, a member of OMERS Ventures Board of Advisors, a Board Member at Stratumn (France), and Advisory Board member to the Coin Center. He was formerly acting as the chief investment officer and managing partner at JM3 Capital, a Swiss-based fund that was in the formation stages during 2018, and part of Geneva-based JabCap. He is the best-selling author of The Business Blockchain (Wiley, 2016, translated in 10 languages), one of the first business books about the blockchain. During the Internet era, William also authored 2 books, published by McGraw-Hill and Harvard Business Review Press. William is the founder of StartupManagement, founder and producer of The Token Summit, manager of WMX, a cryptocurrency index on ICONOMI, and the creator of OnCoins. As an entrepreneur, William founded 3 startups, CYBERManagement (1995-2005, acquired by Aberdeen Group), Eqentia (2008-2012, pivoted to Engagio), and Engagio (2011-2013, acquired by Influitive). Up to 2008, he held senior level positions at Hewlett-Packard, Cognizant and Aberdeen Group. William is a graduate of the University of Washington, the University of Western Ontario Ivey School of Business, and attended the University of British Columbia Graduate Commerce School.
