Blockchain and Decentralized Finance in the (Re)Insurance space: A Practitioner Perspective

The presentation will review the major blockchains, their most successful decentralized finance protocols, and their impact on the financial sector and the (re)insurance industry. What are the opportunities and threats that Decentralized Finance protocol can bring to the insurance value chain? What are the major decentralized insurance protocols, and how do they function? We will answer these questions and provide a deeper analysis of Ensuro – a decentralized capital provider for parametric risks – explaining the concepts of cryptographic stable coins, liquidity pools, decentralized asset management and the role decentralized oracles can have in the claim process.

Marco was previously the Chief Strategy Officer of BigGo, the biggest price comparison website and vertical search engine in South East Asia. Before joining BigGo, he was the founder and Chief Business Development Officer at Cartesi, an off-chain decentralized computational platform for permission-less blockchain. He was an analyst and business development manager for SOSV, a 1b USD AUM VC based in San Francisco, US. Marco is an advisor for Lidbot, an indoor waste management company and BigGo. He holds a double Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Management Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan and Tongji University of Shanghai.
