BLOCKCHAIN CAN FIX THIS, Super clone Rolex watches are now so good that even expert jewellers can’t tell the difference by eye. A veteran dealer with 30 years experience says he now has to open every watch and inspect it under a loupe — and even that’s getting harder. He reckons within 2 to 3 years it’ll be nearly impossible to spot the fakes.
Cartier already stopped authenticating certain pieces because the replicas got too good.
This is exactly the kind of problem blockchain fixes. Every genuine luxury item could have a unique digital identity on-chain — verifiable, tamper-proof, tracked from manufacture to sale. You scan it, you know instantly if it’s real. No expert needed.
The technology already exists. Projects are building this right now. The luxury industry just hasn’t adopted it at scale yet. But when fakes become indistinguishable from the real thing, they won’t have a choice.
